Idea for a dance

2002-11-18

.

Chait Wolf: Can I run an idea past you?

Michelle: sure

Chait Wolf: All right.

Chait Wolf: Last year, Pickle and I had an idea for dance ensemble. Fight to music. Last night, I wrote down my ideas for what it could be.

Michelle: *perks up*

Chait Wolf: Black stage. Fog machine. Bring the lights up, and a group of people come out dressed in robes with cowls that hide their faces. Form a circle on stage. From stage left comes a very Eastern warrior with a bo. From stage right, a Western barbarian/demon (I'm thinking face paint reminiscent of Darth Maul and armour) with a quarterstaff. They enter the circle. (break the circle up so that the audience's view isn't fouled). East starts a kata, as a form of warmup and intimidation. West shouts and bangs his staff on the floor. East bows. West spits. They merge to fight.

Chait Wolf: East fights in very quickly, circularly, and gracefully, accenting the use of speed and agility. West fights in a very plain no nonsense sort of way that makes use of strength. East scores a few hits on West, but West doesn't notice. West disarms East with a heavy-handed blow. The follow-up strike misses as East tumbles or flips out of the way, tripping West as he does so. West's staff clatters to the floor as well. Robes who had left the stage at some point enter again with swords, removing the staves unobtrusively. West gets a large two handed sword, East gets two smaller swords. The same kind of styles are accented.

Chait Wolf: West wounds East in the arm, causing him to drop one of his swords. West kicks it out of the way and presses the attack. East defends desperately, finally slapping aside or dodging a thrust and kicking West in the face. West falls, losing his sword. East brings down his sword. As sword connects, lights black out. When lights come back up, East is gone. West is carried off stage by the robes.

Chait Wolf: What do you think?
